If you’ve ever attended weddings as a guess, you’ve likely witnessed ‘The Frantic Frazzled Photographer’ who is underprepared, rushed, and stressed. We won’t let that happen to us… right?

However, even when we have the best intentions, we can get caught up in the moment of the big day. Maybe the hair and makeup went late, or Uncle Stu disappeared during family photos to get himself a cocktail – all of which sets us back and eats into that precious creative portrait time.

So, how can we guarantee a level of professionalism and success even with constantly changing variables? The key to being more of a calm and collected pro is by putting together that perfect wedding photography timeline.

Something many of my second-shooters have shared is that I am the most calm photographer they’ve worked with. I take this as a big compliment, but it also surprised me at first. Why it it that so many of us as photographers get flustered while working – and how can you get back into a state of calmness, confidence and flow?

One major way of achieving this is through figuring out how to plan a wedding photography timeline. When putting together a timeline, I’m predicting where things can go wrong throughout the day. And this is something any one of us can do!

Weddings can be sometimes be unpredictable – but they’re unpredictable in a predictable way. By having a great timeline in place it can bring a sense of calm back into your wedding days, that leads to a better experience (and better photos!)
